Today I threw in my nomination papers to run for the Green Party of Ontario candidate nominations in Kingston and the Islands, and have stepped down as Kingston and the Islands’ Vice President on the local executive to run.
Over the last 10 months I have been gearing up to run for the nomination. Over the last 2 years I have watched the Ford government make cuts to public education, healthcare, and environmentally friendly policies.
These cuts have hurt people and the environment. I can no longer sit on the sidelines and wait for someone else to speak up. I want to be on the front lines dealing with issues like climate change, affordable housing, and so many other issues that Ontarians are also facing. What our government decides today will affect my future and the future of all present and future Ontarians. I know that we cannot afford another four years of inaction.
We are working harder than ever. In a society with the wealth and resources that this province has, there is no excuse for having families work so much harder and yet fall further behind. We need someone that’s not afraid to step up for the people to ensure that our government will do the right thing. We need politicians who will discuss and take action on issues such as living wage (the cost of living) and the environment just to name a few, after they are elected.
I believe we need a government that places the emphasis on peace, equality, environment, social justice, democracy and fundamental change. I hold these values closely.
As I wait for the Green Party of Ontario to vet me, I will be spending my time meeting up with community leaders and reaching out to members. I believe with an NDP having the incumbent and the Liberals having a former MPP or MP as their potential nominee, we Greens need to get out there fast and start making noise. Me and my campaign team have already gained endorsements and made a platform, and I will release both of those once I am vetted.
If you wish to get involved with the campaign or want to know where I stand on various of issues you can contact me at:
I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
